What do you do if you have zero experience road cycling and has never even traveled past Chicago via car?

Cycle from coast to coast, Washington to New York, of course.

Or at least that is what Eli Jerjerian, a team member of Ride For Water, is doing. Ride For Water is a non-profit organization that recruits a new team each year to cycle across the country to raise money in order to help build wells in communities around the world who do not have access to clean water.

Clean water, which we take for granted every day, is not only necessity for maintaining proper hydration (which after last week’s post, you ought to understand its importance), but for growing disease ridden fruits and vegetables. Currently, 663 MILLION people in the world live without clean water. That’s every 1 in 10 people!

Even more so, dirty water kills more people than violence, including war, each year, and 43% of these deaths are from children under the age of 5-years-old alone. Access to clean water can save up to 16,000 lives EACH week.

With his passion for exercise and for helping those in need, Eli purchased a bike late last year and has been training for his ride across the country ever since.
