I took an overnight trip to Oahu to see Tower of Power at the Blue Note in Waikiki.
Coincidentally, my buddy Ryan flew up on the same flight as me on Hawaiian Airlines so we met my husband, and shared a car into town and got a late lunch at Fete in Chinatown. Robynne Maii, the chef/owner of the restaurant recently was named a finalist in the 2022 James Beard Awards for Best Chef for the Northwest and Pacific region along with Sheldon Simeon! The three of us shared a beet salad, onion rings, carbonara, ginger scallion fried rice. Everything was awesome. My husband wants to go back and eat the carbonara again! My favorite of the day was the ginger scallion fried rice.
We stayed at the Waikiki Prince and luckily got upgraded to an ocean-front room. After sharing a drink with Ryan, we left him and headed to Blue Note at the Outrigger to get seats for the 8 pm performance since seats are first-come, first-served. We got there around 6:30 and got a great table and soon saw our friend Claudia who also was visiting with her husband from Hilo! I have to admit that I didn’t know the songs but I enjoyed the music nonetheless. I enjoyed the venue, the band, and the dancing, and was happy to take a photo after the show with guitarist Jerry Cortez.
The next morning, I wanted to go for my usual morning walk but I had forgotten to pack socks so I just stopped at ABC Store across the street for some essentials and got breakfast for my husband from Mcdonald’s. After lounging around, we headed to the pool to get a burger and a salad since Katsumidori for sushi was sold out. Additionally, I ordered a DoorDash delivery of fried chicken from Vons Hawaii to bring home to Hilo to fulfill my son’s request and then headed to the airport to catch our Hawaiian Airlines flight home to Hilo. Living Hilo Style in Honolulu.
