Two Chirashi and Cats in Honolulu

When I I returned from Las Vegas and Zion National Park, I immediately unpacked and did laundry and repacked for an overnight trip to Oahu the following day. We had tickets for us to see Cats at the Blaisdell. I had never seen Cats before and was looking forward to the performance. My daughter also flew to Oahu with us since she had a global entry appointment scheduled. We timed our Hawaiian Airlines flight so that we would be there for the interview soon after landing. However, with all the delays that Hawaiian Airlines has been having, we gave ourselves an extra cushion of time. (Note: Upon checking in at the airport, we worked with the ticket agent to make a change to my daughter’s return flight. We had tried to change it the day before at the HNL ticket counter, I tried changing it on the Hawaiian Air website and on the app but none of those options worked for us. The agent in Hilo spent a good deal of time helping us with the change. I hope that Hawaiian Airlines fixes the software issues soon. I’ve been very frustrated with the bugs I’ve been dealing with.) Anyway, turns out that our flight was amazingly on time and we had time at the airport to watch some downloaded shows and answer some emails. We tried checking in early but there was no chance of getting in early. In fact, my daughter was let in a little late. Once she got in, the interview was only about 5 minutes so that gave us time to get our rental car and get some lunch before bringing her back to the airport for her flight back home to Hilo. We decided to go to Mitch’s for sushi since it is close to the airport and I enjoyed my first chirashi of the day. I’d definitely go back—the food is yummy and it is reasonably priced. We dropped my daughter off at the airport, and Aaron and I went to Donki to get some water and snacks and checked in to the Prince Waikiki. We lucked out with a room with a beautiful view of the ocean. Before heading to Cats, we joined up with our friends and headed to dinner at Izakaya Matsuri on Young Street where I had my second chirashi of the day. This omakase chirashi was deluxe! After dinner, we headed to the Blaisdell for Cats—I don’t know if it was my jet lag, my feeling of fullness from our delicious dinner or whether I just needed to understand the storyline before seeing this show but I have to admit that I closed my eyes from time to time during the show. I didn’t quite understand what was going on. If you went, maybe you can explain it to me.

The next day, I met Charies, Al, and Max to have lunch with my father on this Father’s Day. I’m glad it worked out that I was there on this day since I don’t get to see him very often. We had a prime rib and shrimp scampi buffet. Right after lunch, we headed to the airport with a box of Von’s Korean fried chicken and flew back home in time for me to prep our Korean-themed Father’s Day dinner complete with fried chicken.
