JCCIH Installation Banquet: Celebrating Leadership and Community Engagement with Mahalo Spirit

I was invited to join a table at the JCCIH Installation Banquet earlier this month. Garth Yamanaka was installed as the incoming president and Toby Taniguchi was recognized for his service during his past year as president. The banquet was held at the ARC of Hilo Event Center with a delicious prime rib buffet catered by Don’s Grill and we enjoyed a musical performance by Jennie Kaneshiro.

The purpose of the JCCIH is to promote a sustainable economic environment in which local business can flourish, provide meaningful jobs, and foster a healthy, vibrant Hawaii Island. The concepts of kahiau (giving without expecting anything in return) and okage sama de (I am what I am because of you) are central to the organization and their work and partnerships. If you have been to A Taste of Hilo, you have been to one of the JCCIH events. A Taste of Hilo supports Hawaii Community College and its culinary program and will be held this October. Tickets are being sold already—get yours before it sells out. Mahalo, JCCIH. Living Hilo Style.
