While many people were going to Oahu to attend the Carrie Underwood concert, I was at also going to Oahu for a concert but I was heading to Tower of Power at Blue Note Hawaii. This was my third time seeing Tower of Power —all three times at the same venue.
We had a smooth flight to Oahu on Hawaiian Airlines and after picking up our car from Budget, went to eat at Sushi ii for the first time in a long time. We enjoyed tataki salad, cold tofu, natto maguro, butterfish, and a decadent seared foie gras! That might have been the first time in my life I ever had foie gras for lunch. After lunch, I was glad to have a chance to visit my dad. We enjoyed chatting and looking at some old photos I brought.

We checked in at the very conveniently located Prince Waikiki. The concert venue is in Waikiki, just about a mile away so we walked to and from the concert and our hotel. It was a great way to get my steps. The menu at the Blue Note changed from the last time I was there. The charcuterie platter is no longer on the menu so we ordered the salami flatbread and the potato wedges. It took about an hour for it to get to us. I don’t know if it was because the kitchen was rushed or if this is the regular quality, but both the flatbread and the wedges were soggy and not crispy. After the concert, we did get to see and take a picture with Jordan John, the new lead singer. Before the walk back to the hotel, we stopped at Tsurutontan for a nightcap and some edamame.

On Sunday, we stopped at Donki to buy yamaimo and Japanese snacks before heading back to the airport. Thank goodness the airline craziness faced by other airlines did not affect our interisland flights. Living Hilo Style in Honolulu.
