What would your life be like without music?
I love attending concerts. My most recent concert was at the Viejas Arena at San Diego State University. It was for Cyndi Lauper’s farewell tour. I also celebrated MY farewell (to work) tour with this Girls Just Want to Have Fun concert.
I flew on Hawaiian Airlines on a Tuesday morning via Maui. There was a bit of a layover on Maui and I spent my time relaxing. I got a bite to eat and chatted with Marla’s dad. I arrived at SAN at 9:15 pm with a pick-up from Marla and Deaner. We relaxed at Marla’s house with champagne and lots of laughs and stayed up until 3 a.m. chatting away. Luckily, I was still on Hawaii time so it was basically 1 a.m.

The next morning, I woke up at 7:30 a.m. and enjoyed morning tea with Deaner. Then we left for brunch at Breakfast Republic. We enjoyed a delicious shakshuka and Brussels sprouts with potatoes and bacon. I had time to make my obligatory stop to Trader Joe’s. We returned to the house, dropped off our purchases, and left to have tacos for lunch. After lunch, we prepped a bumper crop of limes from Marla’s tree for preserved limes. After a power nap, we spent time with Cory and Chyoko before we left for the concert. They brought a Trader Joe’s mystery bag pack for me! I got Virginia, Utah, and Milwaukee. What fun!
The Cyndi Lauper concert was so much fun. She opened with She Bop to get the crowd going. The concert’s highlight for me was Girls Just Want to Have Fun. It featured graphics of works by Yayoi Kusama, one of my favorite artists. In fact, I dressed up as Yayoi for Halloween in 2023. We enjoyed Cup Noodles after the concert before going to sleep around 1 a.m. so that I could get at least three hours of sleep before heading to the airport.
Left San Diego early on Thursday morning. I got to the airport and accessed the Aspire Lounge. There, I had some yogurt, cereal, and a boiled egg. Then I headed to the gate for my flight. Super quick trip. When I scheduled this trip, I thought I’d still be working, so that’s why this whirlwind schedule happened. Living Hilo Style in San Diego.
