It has been a while since Merle and I got together to catch up. After checking our calendars, scheduling and rescheduling our date, we decided to go to brunch on a Sunday. We both had not tried WikiFresh and we were excited to try this new Hilo restaurant that has been very popular with our Hilo crowd.
I got there a few minutes before our meeting time at 10:30 a.m. so that I could take some photos before we got our food. I parked my car and noticed that in the few minutes I was there, a line of cars started filling up the parking lot. There are a lot of spaces and despite the popularity of this new restaurant, finding parking is very easy.
There are a lot of seats both inside and outside so dining in is also easy. While I walked around and took pictures, one of the employees took it upon herself to give me some information about the restaurant and its concept.

I asked friends, checked Yelp reviews, and perused social media posts to help me decide what to order. I finally decided to order a regular-sized bowl with a lettuce base, shredded pork, sauteed peppers & onions, tomato salsa, guacamole, jalapenos, and sunflower seeds. I had some of the Hawaiian chili pepper water for flavor. I also ordered the fruit-infused water of the day. On this day, the restaurant was serving water infused with strawberries, lemon lime, and pineapple. I felt very healthy as I ate my WikiFresh salad after a great morning workout. When my friend and I got there just after WikiFresh opened, there were about seven people ahead of us. By the time we left after our leisurely brunch (two hours after we got there), the line was very long! I think there were around 20 people in line.
Merle and I had a great time at brunch catching up on each others lives. In true Hilo style, we both saw lots of people we knew as they came in to get their WikiFresh yummies. As we were finishing up, we were pleasantly surprised to see Peter Kubota, a pal of mine and one of the restaurant owners as he picked up lunch for himself. Peter agreed to take a picture with Merle and I in front of the fabulous WikiFresh selfie wall, complete with props! What a fun place!
FYI: The restaurant also serves beer, wine, and sangria so you can easily make this a pau hana stop with friends one afternoon. Living Hilo Style.
