Why did the truffle get invited to the party? Cause he’s a fungi!
I think you need the following two items in your life (like ASAP!) if you like truffles. They are Sabatino Tartufi Truffle Zest Seasoning and Torres Black Truffle Potato Chips. I read about both in last months December 2018 issue of Oprah magazine. It was on her list of the carefully curated “2018 Oprah’s Favorite Things.”
Oprah loves truffles so much an entire page (p.75) is devoted to truffles. Sadly, things aren’t readily available in Hilo like they are on the mainland, so I totally FREAKED OUT when I saw the truffle zest and truffle chips she recommended just a few days later! I was strolling through Foodland Farms at The Shops at Mauna Lani when they caught my eye.
Could it be the same truffle zest Oprah carries in her purse? Yeah you read that correctly…in her PURSE! Nah, no ways couldn’t be, right?!! At $15.49 a bottle maybe it was.

I bought it. Yup, that’s the one! I didn’t even have to buy the entire set with the truffle pasta for $49.95 like the set featured in the magazine (though if I saw it I probably would’ve bought the pasta too.)
Verdict? The zest is truffle-rific and I love it on my eggs in the morning. Truffle zest in the morning? Yup, you betcha! I recently had a health scare and it’s taught me to stop waiting for special occasions to use stuff. We’re alive people, every day is special! #trufflesforbreakfast
If you’re interested, both items are located in the specialty food area where they sell the fancy stuff at Foodland Farms. That entire area of the market has an upscale Trader Joe’s vibe. I bought a few bags of the chips for my truffle-loving friends and one for myself but I haven’t actually tried it yet. Mostly because I know once I open it I’ll prob eat the whole bag! That’s the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth.
I love black truffles but you know what I realllly love? WHITE truffles. Can someone please tell my husband to take me to Alba, Italy! You know, for white truffle research!
Happy New Year you guys! Here’s to health, happiness and more truffles in 2019.
