LUNAFEST, Jackie Reys, Moon & Turtle, and Temple with Marla

Wow! What a Friday night it was! It was so much fun, I forgot to take a picture with Marla, who I was hanging out with all night long! Marla was visiting from San Diego and we found some time to get together in Hilo. The LUNAFEST traveling film festival/YWCA fundraiser was happening and loved it so much that I wanted to go again this year, especially since it supports our local YWCA.

This year, it started off with a happy hour sponsored by Jackie Rey’s. We enjoyed wine, beer, and pupu while hanging out with friends. After the happy hour, we headed to the YWCA where we enjoyed eight short films by women that celebrated, showcased, and championed women. The Final Show and Are We Good Parents were two of my favorite films.

There was popcorn and candy and goodie bags with Luna bars in them. I got Blueberry Bliss and Creamy Dreamy Peanut Butter. (My daughter loved the Creamy Dreamy Peanut Butter flavor the most and requested that it be on my shopping list all the time.) After the films, my husband picked up me and Marla and took us to Moon & Turtle.

It was Marla’s first time there and she could finally try my favorite dishes! In true Hilo fashion, we saw a few friends at the restaurant. After Moon & Turtle, we headed to Temple, a new craft beer and wine bar with the friends we saw at Moon and Turtle and enjoyed a nightcap.

It was especially nice to see Dr. Hillier, my former high school English teacher and cross country coach! I can’t believe I got a picture of Viking alumni Bo, Sharyl, me, and Dr. Hillier but didn’t get Marla in the photo! Marla and I had too much fun and we were too ‘in the moment’ to stop and take a picture the whole evening.

Here is a pic of us from 1995! We were young! Living Hilo Style.
