After a quick morning workout, my husband and I cruised the Las Vegas Strip in search of lunch.
We ended up at Grand Wok and Sushi at the MGM Grand. There were some other restaurants we wanted to try at MGM, but those restaurants were only open for dinner. We ordered choi sum, eggplant, garlic and shrimp fried rice, and a steamed black bean sauce bass. The flavors were pretty good, but I’ve had some better preparations of these dishes in Hilo. The serving sizes were generous though and we brought home leftovers and fortune cookies for our kids who didn’t want to cruise around with us. My fortune said something about me making money and keeping it. 😉
Before we left the Las Vegas Strip, we wanted to see the Bellagio water fountain show that was set to the tune of the Bruno Mars hit Uptown Funk. Thanks to http://www.MarksLasVegas.com, we knew the schedule of songs and so we headed to Bellagio by 6:30 p.m. to enjoy the music of the Hawaii-born superstar. What fun!
Right after the water show, we crossed the street to the Paris Hotel and Casino to see Jersey Boys. I saw this musical once before and my husband has seen it twice and we both love it. We love musicals and love this one in particular with its story about Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons. This story about love, friendship, family, and the music industry all set to the hit songs of the group will touch you in your heart. It was nice to finally see this show with my husband~and to share the experience with the kids.
After the show, we headed to Yusho at the Monte Carlo because my daughter wanted to eat ramen. Unfortunately, Yusho is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays and we didn’t get to try their food.
We ended up at 800 Degrees Neapolitan Pizzeria located right next door to Yusho. This restaurant allows you to customize a pizza in a manner similar to how you customize your sandwich at Subway. We stood in a line and step-by-step, customized our pizza. First you choose a crust, then the sauce, then the toppings. The custom pizza is then baked in a 800° wood-burning oven for a blazing 60-90 seconds and your pizza is ready. We had roasted garlic, roasted peppers, mushrooms, and pepperoni on our delicious crispy pizza. This restaurant also has a nice selection of draft beers to go with your pizza. Great late-night stop.
Speaking of a late-night stop, I’d be remiss if I didn’t tell you about the 10 p.m.-midnight happy hour deal at Todd English P.U.B. at the Crystals. We took the kids back to the condo and then headed to enjoy half-priced wine and beer to finish our evening. What a deal~and a nice date with the husband.
Our time on the Las Vegas Strip is quickly coming to an end. We are so lucky to have been able to stay at a relative’s condo located at the Mandarin Oriental. This place has a great view, awesome amenities, and incredible location. Next we will be at the Orleans Hotel with friends to ring in the new year. Looking forward to 2016 with friends, fun, food, and most of all family. Living Hilo Style.
