My mentor/division chair/dog sitter/Honolulu driver/tangerine provider but most of all friend is retiring from Hawaii Community College at the end of this month. That makes me sad. I am so lucky to have been able to depend on him ever since I started working at the college. Happy retirement, Bobby! I am glad to know that I will continue seeing you since you won’t retire from your non-paying job of being my dog sitter. And even though you’re leaving me, I’ll continue being Mika and Maile’s sitter!
Rickie always looks forward to the company. We recently spent some time together prior to his retirement at Cronies Bar and Grill in Downtown Hilo one evening. One person was a little under the weather and ordered a hot toddy. That was the first time I have seen anyone order that drink. I should have taken a picture of it. It looked warm and comforting on this chilly December Hilo evening.
Our group ordered a bunch of pupus and shared all the delicious food and we spent time together and enjoyed the friendship we developed as colleagues. Living Hilo Style.
