Where did you grow up? If you are old like me and grew up in Hilo, Hawaii you probably remember going to Robert’s Bakery. Did you beg your parents to ride the horse and see-saw rides outside of Robert’s too? I did every single time. Robert’s Bakery is long gone, but you can still get yummy treats at the same location, but now it’s Short N Sweet Bakery. They have really, really good stuff when you want to #treatyoself.
I met Short N Sweet’s owner, Maria Short about ten years ago while taking cooking and baking classes through Hawaii Community College’s OCET (Office of Continuing Education and Technology) Program.
The pics above are from cooking classes I took from Audrey Wilson. I also took classes from chefs Alan and Kay Okuda, Shawn Sumiki, Brian Hirata, and of course Maria Short. I learned a lot from each of them, so fun!
Recently, we got together with some friends for a Cinco de You-Know party. It was also the hostess’ birthday. We were lucky enough to have Short N Sweet’s POG (Passion Orange Guava) cake to celebrate. I know a good cake when I taste it.
If you are in need of a special cake, this POG cake is it. Tell Maria I sent you…only in Hilo!
