A long-time friend from my early teaching days contacted me recently to catch up. We visited Hilo Burger Joint in downtown Hilo where he clearly was a regular. They knew his drink and food order without him saying a word. We sat at the bar and talked about the past, the present, and the future.

We enjoyed a Bleu Cheese Burger which was delicious with a soft bun and sharp cheese. The fries were tasty and crispy and went well with ketchup doused in a vinegary/garlicky sauce from Da Secret Sauce.
