My brother-in-law from Japan visited recently.

We shared some locally-grown avocado with him for dinner one evening.

He told us that if you eat the avocado with wasabi and shoyu, it reminds some people of eating toro (fatty tuna) sashimi.

I tried it that evening and it was good! What an easy and delicious way to eat creamy, buttery, local avocado when it is in season! Just slice it up and dip it in a wasabi/shoyu sauce. Yum! Living Hilo Style!
I never thought to call it that but we do this all the time. We slice our ahi and if we have avocado it gets sliced as well. Yummy with natto, too!
