When Brother Visits Hilo

My brother and his family came to Hilo to help celebrate Steven’s graduation from Hilo High School. We had a great time hanging out with my nephew Max!

After the graduation ceremony, we went to Zippy’s for dinner. Since Hilo has only a few choices for late-night dining, there was a little bit of a wait but we got in. And since there are only a few choices for late-night dining, while we were waiting, we saw many people we knew with the same idea of getting a late dinner after graduation.

I enjoyed the pork saimin. After dinner, we went home since I had to wake up at 4 a.m. to help with the Hilo High Grad Nite breakfast/checkout. After my 4 a.m. wake up, working at Hilo High and finally getting home around 8 a.m., I rested for a bit since no one else in the house was awake yet. Once we all woke up, my husband got breakfast for us from Cafe 100.

I had the miso special that has rice, scrambled egg, kamaboko, and green onions in the miso soup. After breakfast, we went to Nori’s to pick up some lemon peel gummy butterflies and some lemon peel too.

My SIL had tasted it at the Noodle Fest in Honolulu and wanted to get some to take home to Oahu. My mouth waters just looking at that lemon.

After Nori’s we stopped at Imiloa where we thought my nephew might enjoy some fun educational activities.

By the time we left Imiloa, we were a little hungry so we stopped at K’s Drive In where we had a gravy cheeseburger and a twist cone.

Later that evening, we visited Mark and Soni at Moon & Turtle for some amazing dishes. Mark and my brother Charles are high school classmates and it was nice chance for them to catch up for a few minutes.

All in all, it was a great few days of family and food. Living Hilo Style.
