We had an unexpected overnighter on Oahu recently to attend a service for the passing of a loved one. Although these occasions may cause tears, it is always nice to see family whom you may not have seen for some time.
We took advantage of this trip to connect with loved ones. And eat some food. We landed on Oahu and met my brother for lunch at Pioneer Saloon at SALT in Kakaako. I loved the tamagoyaki, nebeneba bowl, and the takowasa. The nebaneba bowl was my favorite with natto, okra, yamaimo, poke, and a soft boiled egg over rice. YUM!

After lunch, we visited family and spent time remembering our wonderful uncle whom we miss. We ate together at Little Village Noodle House in Chinatown and enjoyed each others’ company as we indulged in even more food.
We stayed at the Ilikai Hotel & Suites where for a price comparable to Pagoda and Ala Moana Hotel, we had a suite with kitchenette that comfortably fit my family of four. After we checked in, we headed to visit my brother at his house bearing Popeye’s fried chicken. That was my first time trying the chicken and it was YUM! The crispy outside was deliciously enjoyable. It was so good, I forgot to take a picture of it.
I woke up early the next morning and headed out for some time exploring the area and getting some exercise minutes in. After getting back and showering, we headed to Cinnamon’s in the lobby of the hotel for a big breakfast before checking out and going to the airport. The guava chiffon pancakes were fluffy and delicious. Time with loved ones is so precious. Take the opportunity to be together when you can. Living Hilo Style in Honolulu.
