I was at a baseball practice earlier this week and a fellow baseball mom asked about the “Crock Pot Laulau” recipe I posted on Instagram earlier in the week. I told her my family enjoyed it and made a comment about how slow cookers are not as popular as Multi-cookers (i.e. Instant Pots.) She agreed but made a comment that food made in slow cookers are like wine, they just get better with time!! I loved that comment because I still love my slow cooker! If you like easy slow cooker recipes I’m sure you already know how to make this.
Crock Pot Laulau
Ingredients:
- 1 bag of taro leaves (about 2 pounds), rinsed
- 2 (2 lbs. each) Franks Foods Brand “Oven-Ready Butt”
- Slow cooker liner (optional)
Method:
- Line a 7-quart slow cooker with the liner, if using.
- Rinse the luau leaves and make 4 piles (½ lb. each)
- Ready two large pieces of foil (about 2 feet each)
- Place 1 pile of leaves on the foil sheet. Add a piece of oven-ready butt on leaves. Place pile 2 over the oven-ready butt so it’s encasing the butt. Wrap everything tightly in the foil to make one giant laulau.
- Do the same thing with piles 3 and 4 and the other oven-ready butt to make a second giant laulau.
- Place both in a slow cooker and cook on “low” for 7-8 hours.
Note: I actually have two 7-quart slow cookers and split mine up, but my oven-ready butts were 2.5 pounds each. If everything doesn’t fit, you can microwave the luau leaves to shrink it like my father-in-law does.

That’s it, only easy!
is there any difference between using using the Franks oven ready pork versus regular pork butt at the market?

Hi Tracy: The oven-ready pork butt is preseasoned and delicious. You can use regular pork butt and add your own seasonings.
