Goji Kara at the Food Basket

My pal Ryan invited me to be his guest at the Japanese Chamber of Commerce Goji Kara event at the Food Basket. The attendees learned about the important role the Food Basket plays in our community. Everyone also heard about Ho’olako, Hawaii Island’s agricultural innovation park and food system campus. The star of the evening was the presentations by the culinary and agriculture programs at Hawaii Community College. The agriculture program gave away sweet potato plants and hydroponically grown lettuce to everyone!

We enjoyed refreshments from Kadota Liquor paired with this menu prepared by the Hawaii Community College culinary program.

  • Tossed Hydroponic Salad with Creamy Garlic Dressing topped with Smoked Marlin (Hydroponic Lettuce Grown by the HCC Agriculture Program)
  • Lettuce Wrap with Local Pork Belly topped with Korean Samjang and pickled Vegetables (Hydroponic Lettuce Grown by the HCC Agriculture Program)
  • Local Beef Slider on HCC’s famous homemade HCC bread with Provolone, Arugula & Balsamic Reduction
  • Mini Local Smoke Pork Bowl with Pickled Onions
  • Tapioca with ‘Uala

Awesome things happening in Hilo. Living Hilo Style.
