Hawaii Rush Big Island Soccer and Ha’aheo Soccer clubs hosted the annual MiniBig Indoor Soccer tournament on January 23-24 and 29-31, 2016 at the Edith Kanakaole Tennis Stadium. Fifty-five teams with athletes ranging in age from 4-14 gathered from Oahu, Maui, Kauai, and the Big Island to show their skills on the newly resurfaced courts of the tennis stadium. The MiniBig tournament for the first time this year featured a men’s league this year that was exciting to watch and will continued to be incorporated in future MiniBig tournaments.
The stadium was filled with the sound of athletes competing, lots of cheering, and the aroma from an awesome concession stand. There was an great local menu at the concession stand.
Watching these athletes play soccer, working well together as a team was so rewarding. Some teams won, some teams lost; there were some tears and lots of smiles. No matter the outcome of the game, all of the experiences led to life lessons for the youth.
