Hilo celebrated the opening of this weekend’s Hilo Orchid Show at the annual Gala Preview Party, held at the Edith Kanakaole Tennis Stadium. Proceeds from “The Carousel of Aloha” event will benefit the Ku`ikahi Mediation Center and the Hilo Orchid Society Scholarship Fund. The Orchid Show will dazzle Hilo starting today through Sunday, June 5th.
For the past eight of its 64 years, the Hilo Orchid Society has put on their annual gala in support of the Ku`ikahi Mediation Center. Last night’s party blended imaginative displays of award-winning orchids with delicious food stations and talented artist vendors. All for a great cause!
Popular orchid growers from across the island were in attendance as well as quite a number of orchid enthusiasts. A wide array of vendors showcased their beautiful handmade items useful for displaying any plants, especially those purchased at this event. Other items available included jewelry, glassware, paintings, and bonsai.
Orchids are some of the most popular flowers in our tropical climate. Like any other living creature, great care is needed in order for orchids to thrive. Of course, there is an incredible variety that will surely accommodate every shade of green anyone’s thumbs could be. This weekend long event is truly one that shouldn’t be missed.
Many of the volunteers in attendance last night were friendly, knowledgeable, and fun to interact with. Please contact Hilo Orchid Society for information on orchid care and educational opportunities. Or to donate to their scholarship.
