by Misty I.Recently my family and I made a lunch stop at Millieʻs here in Hilo, Hawaii. We used to go all the time but weʻve been busy lately with baseball and golf. My children love the strawberry milkshakes made with real ice cream and we all love eating their wraps for lunch. We have tried many of their wraps but our favorite is the “sweet chili wrap on a spinach tortilla”.It consists of lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers, fresh mushrooms, cucumbers, chicken and sweet chili mayo. They also give you a little container of sweet chili sauce and bread and butter pickles with your order.

The vibe at Millieʻs is very “Hilo” especially if you go on a Sunday and watch all the kids across the street jumping off the railing into Ice Pond. I wonder if they still call it “powdering” or “cannonballing?”The decor at Millieʻs is a step back in time with metal lunch boxes lining the shelves and authentic album covers like Michael Jacksonʻs Thriller and We Are The World. I especially love the framed picture of Millie which I believe is the mother or grandmother of the owner. Every time I look at that picture of Millie I feel a little tug at my heart and remember my own Grandma Mary who made such a positive impact on my life and taught me to love baking and cooking.
