Iʻm a proud UH Hilo alumni. Sadly, I donʻt recall attending any Vulcan baseball games while I was a student. I mustʻve been too busy studying!
My family and I have attended a few games this season mostly because my younger son has a season pass and often requests to go.Weʻve even developed a little routine, we order Chicken Caesar Salad and Club sandwiches from Donʻs Grill which is practically across the street from Wong Stadium.
We pay our admission and choose to sit in the stadium seats behind home plate so we are able to lean back and enjoy the game. Weʻve attended enough games this season and have sat in the same area so often that the kupuna in attendance are starting to acknowledge us with smiles and nods upon our arrival. This makes me smile because itʻs sooo Hilo!
I enjoy the atmosphere of the games, I see a lot of families in attendance and my younger son always manages to find one of his pinto teammates to cheer with.I should mention that they love to sneak off and sit at the very top of the stadium and yell for the Vulcans. The music they play at the stadium in between Coach Joey Estrellaʻs commentary is awesomely eclectic and ranges from todayʻs country hits to old school gangsta rap. If you are looking for something to do in Hilo, come and support our UH Hilo Vulcans play ball! These are the remaining home games:
