The Hilo Complex schools recently held its winter concert at the Hilo High Auditorium. The Hilo Intermediate Beginning Band and Concert Band and the Hilo High Orchestra and Viking Bands performed.
Since my son is in the band, I worked at the door with fellow parents and distributed programs. The line was out the door with people waiting for the band to finish warming up so they could get the perfect seat to watch the child they came to see.
It was so nice to hear the culmination of hard work by the students and their teachers. It was even nicer to hear how proud the community is of these youth who work so hard. I see parents, grandparents, and friends all supporting these musically talented youth of Hilo.
The post on the Hilo High School Facebook page states:
Beautiful melodies in our Auditorium this evening! #HiloIntermediate Spartans and our Vikings graced the stage for a packed house this evening for the Annual Hilo Complex Band Winter Concert!
Mahalo to the students, for your dedication to the art of music and for being able to balance your love of music and your other studies.
Mahalo to all the parents of our band students, for your endless support of your child with the countless rehearsals and performances.
Mahalo to Band Directors Yvonne Yokoe and Corey Maesaka, for your perseverance and leadership to our Band programs.
Lastly, mahalo to all who attended tonight. Our students are well supported, and tonight that was further proven by the lack of seats! Awesome! #hhsVikingPride #hhsVikingFuture
It was not so easy to find empty seats at this concert and it was heartwarming to see the support from the community. I saw lots of proud parental posts on Facebook and Instagram after the conclusion of the concert! Way to go Hilo! Living Hilo Style!
