Natto, Egg, Nira Rice Bowl Breakfast

One of my comfort foods from my childhood was tamago gohan or tamago kake gohan (TKG). I crave this every so often and since it is so easy to make, I can always fulfill my craving. On this morning, I had natto in my fridge and nira (garlic chives) in my garden. It was the perfect time to make this very filling meal for my breakfast. I fried the nira and seasoned it with sesame oil and then mixed the natto with the dashi and mustard and mixed it up to prepare to make my bowl. When you have everything, all you have to do is assemble the bow. Fill a bowl with steaming hot rice, layer a container of natto on the rice. Make a little well in the middle and crack an egg there.

I sprinkled some chopped green onions over the top and added the cooked nira to the bowl. Just season with some shoyu and mix it all up and enjoy! Living Hilo Style.

(I grew up eating raw eggs and have never gotten ill. But you should be aware that consuming raw or undercooked meats, poultry, seafood, shellfish, or eggs may increase your risk of foodborne illness.)
