Tell us about your favorite pair of shoes, and where they’ve taken you.
I have a hard time choosing favorites for anything in my life. I don’t have a favorite color. I enjoy different colors for different reasons. I don’t have a favorite food. I love all kinds of food and depending on the weather or the mood or even the company, I choose different things to eat. I don’t have a dream car and I am happy with a car that gets me where I want to go without issues. Maybe it is because I don’t have the time to look up cars and dream about a car I want since I’m always trying to figure out how to grow things. I definitely don’t have a favorite pair of shoes. That is not to say that I don’t care about shoes. I love shoes. All kinds of shoes—sneakers, mules, slippahs, slides, sandals, boots. I can never have enough shoes. As I think about shoes and how they fit into my life I realize that in addition to comfortable shoes, I value shoes that take me traveling.

As I think about my traveling shoe needs–I sometimes need shoes to take me to fancy dinners, I often need shoes to take me hiking, and always, I need shoes to take me exploring. Comfortable shoes are so important to allow me to enjoy the whole experience of traveling. On my last trip to Japan, I even purchased a pair of geta that I find myself using once in a while here in Hilo. If I’m going to a cold climate, I need shoes to cover my toes. If I’m going to a beachy place, a pair of slippers/sandals might be all I need. In Hilo, especially during rainy weather, a pair of rubber slippers is your best bet!
