If you have read some of my earlier posts, you know that my son is a runner. He qualified as a freshman for the Hawaii state track meet held at the Kapalama Kamehameha campus on Oahu recently. My husband and I decided to go up to Oahu to watch the meet and cheer on the Big Island runners. Our Big Island runners did great! Listed below are the top three Big Island finalists for the track and field events.

I’m most proud of two freshman from Hilo High School! In each of their respective 3000 meter runs (a little under two miles), both Sam Marrack and Steven Chung finished as the top freshmen in the state! Sam Marrack finished 15th out of 28 runners with a time of 11:42.80 and Steven Chung finished 13th out of 31 runners with a time of 9:49.37. (I can’t even run one mile in that time!) Other Big Island freshman runners who did well in this event were Sophia Cash from Honokaa and Adrian Larkspur from Waiakea. Great job runners!
In addition to the track meet, I did get to eat some good food while on Oahu.
On Friday, we picked up some charcuterie and ate at my brother’s house. My sister-in-law made an amazing salmon! We enjoyed sake that I brought back from Kashima that went perfectly with the family dinner.
I woke up early on Saturday and went to the Kapiolani Community College Farmer’s Market to get my Pig and the Lady fix.
We went out to dinner one night and ate at Izakaya Nonbei. My husband is a creature of habit and this is one of the restaurants that he likes to frequent. Good food that the whole family can share. What a great weekend!
