Last week I led a group of students to Kyoto, Japan for a Global Summit. Teachers had one day off while the students spent the entire day with their host family. I hemmed and hawed over what I would do. The options are endless. Our Global Summit was located in Nagaokakyo-Shi which is also just a 45-minute train ride from Osaka. I love Dotonbori! Hmmm…Osaka or stay in Kyoto? I finally decided to stay in Kyoto and explore Nishiki Market, Teramachi-dori and Shinkyodoku-dori. The time went by so quickly!

I visited Snoopy Cha-ya Teahouse on Nishiki Street, so kawaii! The tea house is upstairs but they have the cutest shop downstairs with amazing PEANUTS and Snoopy souvenirs. I couldn’t resist getting a Nishijin-style kimono fabric Snoopy cosmetic bag that Kyoto is known for!

Nishiki Market has tons of street food options! The first thing I ate was gyoza (of course!) crispy and delicious.

The second thing I got was a melon pan. I had never actually had a WARM melon pan. It was unbelievable! Pillowy soft with a crunchy texture on the top. I have had many melon pans, but this was the best by far! I could’ve eaten at least two more.
I hope you make your way to Nishiki Market soon, you only live once!
